Top-Tripp 18: Short tour through the Altmühl nature park

ALTMÜHL CYCLE PATH

In 1983, a group of tourism officials led by Dr. Alexander Lipp from Eichstätt opened cycle paths along the Altmühl. Their plan was to strangthen the economy of the region at the border to "Old Bavaria" by promoting the beauty of the nature and landscape. Eichstätt, once the capital of the small diocese, showed so its commitment for the whole region.

  • Day 1, Arrival
    Arrival at Weissenburg (picturesque half-timbered old city, city hall); information and bicycles distribution. Parking near the hotel..

  • Day 2, Eichstätt (52 km)
    Passing through Karlsgraben riding further to Treuchtlingen. Continuing through the Altmühl nature park over the Twelve Apostles cliffs, Pappenheim, Solnhofen and medieval Dollnstein to Eichstätt.

  • Day 3, Riedenburg (68 km)
    Leisure time for individual city tour; riding further through the nature park over the Arnsberg (castle), Kifpfenberg and Dietfurt (Chinese fountain) reaching Riedenburg in "Old Bavaria".

  • Day 5, Walhalla (22 km)

    Return journey by bus (Fr, Sa, Su) or by train (departure at 09:20). Transportation of own bicycles is possible by giving them out to our staff in Regensburg. Price: € 16,- without/€ 63,- with transport insurance.
