Danube cycle path Passau-Vienna

DANUBE CYCLE PATH

The building of all distance cycle paths was initiated by our management in early 1982. The 313 km long popular cycle path from Passau to Vienna was built on place of the old towpaths, where long time ago horses were used to transport barges up the Danube.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Donauradweg_Radlerrast

Cycle path: Flat/little downhill, traffic free, consistently marked. From 312 m above sea to 183 m above sea level runs the path along the Danube.

Start and end cities: Passau (50,740 inhabitants) lies on the German/Austrian border, where the Danube, Inn and Ilz meet. Vienna (1,68 million inhabitants) lies on the Danube and is both the capital of Austria and one of its nine provinces.

Dates: Daily arrival from April, 17 till October, 17 (=last arrival).
Low season: from April, 17 till May, 20 and from September, 16 till October, 17
Hight season: from May, 21 till September, 15.

Services: Pick up by bus directly from the hotel in Vienna (at 08:30) and transfer to the parking in Passau (arrival at 13:00). Return journey by train (to be specified while booking) surcharge of € 5,- per person. 2nd class train ticket with a free choice of train. Transfer to the railway station is not included.

Arrival by plane: Upon arrival to Vienna by plane we send you Vienna-Passau train ticket by post.

St. Florian (abbey with 800 rooms, vault of Anton Bruckner)
Enns - oldest city of Austria
Perg - 5 km away from Danube (soap boiler house, charnel house)
Grein - every Friday at 12:00 in July and August champagne welcoming and piano concert for all our guests (Grein castle with the knights' room and stone theatre)
Melk - dominant symbol at the beginning of the Wachau Valley with its famous abbey
Spitz - wine-growing town with "Tausendeimerberg" - Mountain of a Thousand Buckets (two castles, palace, Pastoren Tower)
Dürnstein (Baroque city views, monastery church)
Krems - one of the richest cities in Europe during the middle ages (home of the "Kremser Penny")
Tulln - Roman city (charnel house)
Klosterneuburg - also called "Austria's Escorial"
