DRAU CYCLE PATH
FACTS
Individual cycling tour; riding through harsh beauty of the Alpine main range along the well done cycle path leading to the warm lakes of Carinthia.
ROUTE
- Day 1, Arrival
Arrival at Lienz, distribution of bicycles; private parking.
- Day 2, Berg on theDrau (55km cycling, 30 km by train)
Traveling by train to Sillian; cycling tour along the Drau through a wide Drau Valley.
- Day 3, Sachsenburg (41 km)
Riding on the Drau cycle path to the medieval area of Greifenburg and then reaching Sachsenburg.
- Day 4, Villach (47 km)
Passing the Rothernthurn castle, reaching the Paternion on the Drau; continuing to Villach ("Holy Mind Church", etc.)
- Day 5, The Ossiach Lake (50 km)
Starting at the foot of castle hill riding to the Ossiach Lake, and then further to Annenheim; riding through the nature reserve to Bodensdorf and further to Villach. Overnight stay in the previous night's hotel.
- Day 6, Ferlach-Kirschentheuer (53 km)
Riding to Feistritz in the Rosen Valley (one of the most beautiful valleys in Carinthia); passing Maria Elend (pilgrimage church), and getting to Hollenburg Palace and to the medieval Ferlach.
- Day 7, Klopein Lake (43 km)
Cycling tour to Galizien and Seidendorf; afterwards riding through the Neudenstein Castle and then further on through the bird sanctuary to the national market; then riding on side roads to the Klopein Lake.
- Day 8. Departure
After breakfast return journey by bus to the parking in Linz (approx. 3 hours).
HOTELS
Overnight stay in beautiful middle-class 3*** and 4****hotels, situated directly on the cycle path. Friendly staff and very good service guaranteed.
CUISINE
Daily breakfast buffet; 3 course menu with HB; typical Carinthian and Tyrol specialities (e.g. sweet yeast dumpling).
