Insider tips from Lake Chiemsee

Well-marked cycle paths, numerous excursion options and the dreamlike backdrop of Lake Chiemsee - the Chiemgau region combines nature and culture as well as pretty villages and Bavarian cosiness. In April, a group of Donau Touristik employees explored the cycle paths around Germany's third-largest inland lake - also known as the Bavarian Sea. They brought with them a wealth of insider knowledge, amusing anecdotes and numerous tips for cycling enthusiasts. Cycle tour specialists Daniela, Anna, Martina, Verena, Julia and Mr Preimesberger share their tips for the perfect coffee break, impressive sights along the way and much more.
Insider tip #1: Where was the best coffee break?
The travel experts agree: there are numerous cafés on the banks of Lake Chiemsee near the Prien landing stage that are perfect for a break. You can enjoy a cosy coffee on their terraces - the view of the lake is unique.
On the way back from Amerang to Bad Endorf in the village of Höslwang, you will also find the "Zur schönen Aussicht" inn. The name doesn't come from just anywhere - the terrace with panoramic views is perfect for afternoon coffee and cake.
Insider tip #2: What impressed you the most?
The traditionally built houses along the way, which have been lovingly designed, are particularly worth seeing. In combination with the diverse and extensive lake landscape and the Chiemgau Alps in the background, this is a great cycling experience.
Insider tip #3: These sights are a must-see:
Seeon Monastery is a former Benedictine monastery and is located near Lake Chiemsee. Seeon Monastery is beautifully situated on a peninsula nestled in Lake Seeon. The former monastery library and the monastery restaurant with its lakeside terrace offer refreshments.
Herrenchiemsee and Frauenchiemsee are inland islands in Lake Chiemsee. Herreninsel is famous for King Ludwig II's castle, which can be visited on a guided tour. Fraueninsel is a neighbouring island and boasts a Benedictine nunnery as well as picturesque and well-kept houses and gardens belonging to the islanders. The Fraueninsel can be walked round on foot in 30 minutes.
Insider tip #4: What was particularly memorable?
Here, too, the colleagues immediately agreed that the hospitality of the Bavarians rounded off the cycle tour. The locals are always endeavouring and absolutely helpful. We would be happy to return to the land of Bavaria any time - "Servus, Pfiat di".
