Potsdam


The capital of Brandenburg, is located directly on the Havel and borders of Berlin in the southwest. Potsdam has an extraordinary cultural landscape to offer. This includes fifteen castles with their gardens, historic quarters and much more. The historic buildings and the UNESCO World Heritage Sites are best admired during a boat tour.

Particularly worth seeing are the Park Sanssouci, Sanssouci Palace, Charlottenhof Palace, the New Garden (Marble Palace, Orangery), Park Babelsberg (Babelsberg Palace, small castle). In addition, Potsdam contains a large number of imposing churches and buildings featuring various architectural styles.

In the 1770s/71s, Frederick II commissioned the construction of the Brandenburg Gate on Luisenplatz. At the end of the Seven Years' War, he had the old gate demolished and a new one built as a sign of victory.

Culture & Events

A vivid cultural life can be found in the Schiffbauergasse situated on the lake shore of the Tiefer See. In addition, there are also numerous concerts to be experienced at different locations.
