Route
Day 1, arrival in Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Parking in an unguarded, public, free parking lot at the train station. Distribution of travel documents. Individual opportunity to visit the medieval town.

Day 2, Ansbach, 54 km by bike

In the morning, rental bikes are issued (if booked). The route starts off slightly hilly to the source of the Altmühl River and past the Hohenzollern Castle Colmberg to Ansbach. Admission and guided tour of the residence (with one of the largest orangeries in the world).

Day 3, Wettelsheim/Weißenburg, 65 km by bike

TBike tour past Altmühlsee to Gunzenhausen and via Trommetsheim to Weißenburg or Wettelsheim.

Day 4, Eichstätt, 50 km by bike

Through the Altmühltal Nature Park, past Solnhofen and the “Twelve Apostles” rock formation to the old bishopric town (cathedral, Willibaldsburg, Schutzengelkirche).

Day 5, Beilngries, 44 km by bike

Via Walting and Arnsberg (castle) to Kipfenberg (castle, townscape) and the day's destination.

Day 6, Kelheim, 48 km by bike

Via Dietfurt, where the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal meets the Altmühl, to Riedenburg (admission to the Crystal Museum) and Kelheim (townscape, Hall of Liberation, Danube Gorge).

Day 7, Regensburg, 38 km by bike, 50 minutes by boat

Via Saal an der Donau and Bad Abbach to Regensburg (UNESCO World Heritage Site).

Day 8, end of the bike tour

Return journey by bus on Saturdays (also on Fridays in June and September) and by train on the other days (3 changes). Return transfer of your own bikes is possible for an additional charge of €38 as part of the bus return transfer. For return journeys by train on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, bikes are transported overnight. Your own bikes must be handed in by 5 p.m. on the day before at the last stage hotel. Delivery (around 12 a.m.) to the arrival hotel on the following day.
