Managing Director Manfred Traunmüller went on an exploratory tour along the Fulda and Weser Cycle Path to personally verify the quality of the hotels and to test the surrounding cycling routes.
Fulda Cycle Path – Cycling where the heart beats.
Manfred Traunmüller
“The Weser Cycle Path is frequently named Germany’s most popular long-distance cycling route in surveys – and after my cycling holiday along the Fulda and Weser Cycle Paths, I can only confirm this. The route offers beautiful landscapes and many highlights. I was particularly impressed by the Fulda, one of the two source rivers of the Weser. In terms of scenery, the Fulda Cycle Path is in no way inferior to the Weser Cycle Path. Both routes are flat and car-free. They run away from busy roads and lead through a low mountain range spared from architectural eyesores — something you wouldn’t expect in Europe’s No. 1 economic powerhouse.
You cycle through numerous river bends with stunning steep and shady banks, and first-class sights line the way: the romantic half-timbered town of Melsungen, the monasteries Haidau and Bursfelde, the truly unique UNESCO World Heritage Site Corvey Abbey, Hamelin, and many more. At Porta Westfalica – the beginning of the North German Plain – this cycling week full of unrivalled scenic and cultural impressions comes to an end.”
Hotel recommendations
After his stage on the Weser Cycle Path, Mr. Traunmüller took a break at the traditional Parkhotel Hameln – and was delighted. The location directly on the Weser, surrounded by a beautiful park, immediately creates a holiday feeling. Especially after a long day of cycling, the cozy rooms and the small wellness area invite you to relax. The hotel combines comfort with plenty of charm – an ideal retreat for cyclists.
In Minden, the Hotel Lindgart was a true discovery. Mr. Traunmüller praised the modern facilities and the generous breakfast, which provides perfect energy for the next stage of the tour. Particularly convenient: the central location makes it easy to explore the charming old town, and cyclists have access to secure bike storage. A hotel that impresses with both comfort and cyclist-friendliness.
Hameln as an international tourism magnet
Hameln is known worldwide for the Pied Piper legend, which is kept alive to this day – whether through the daily chime and animated figure show at the Wedding House or the popular open-air performance in summer. But the town on the Weser has much more to offer. A stroll through the historic old town feels like a journey into the past: elaborately decorated half-timbered houses, magnificent buildings of the Weser Renaissance, and winding alleyways make the cityscape truly unique.
Those who want to experience culture can visit the Hamelin Museum, which presents the famous legend in a multimedia format while also offering fascinating insights into the city’s history. Right on the Weser, the promenade and boat docks invite you to relax – whether by bike, on foot, or on a small cruise on the water. Culinary delights are plentiful in Hamelin as well: cozy cafés, regional specialties, and a lively gastronomy scene leave nothing to be desired.
Around the town, the Weser Uplands await with idyllic landscapes, ideal for cycling or hiking. And throughout the year, events such as the Pflasterfest or the atmospheric Christmas market ensure that there is always something happening in Hamelin. In this way, the city charmingly combines history, culture, and nature – and delights visitors from all over the world.
Kassel – the Orangerie in the Karlsaue State Park
In Kassel, cyclists are welcomed by a true gem of Baroque garden art: the magnificent Orangerie in the Karlsaue State Park. This impressive 18th-century building is not only an architectural highlight, but also beautifully embedded in expansive park grounds featuring avenues, flowerbeds, and waterways. It’s the perfect place to take a break during a cycling tour and enjoy the unique atmosphere.
The journey along the Fulda and Weser Cycle Paths gave Mr. Traunmüller many unforgettable impressions – from historic cities to welcoming hotels. A tour that shows just how varied and experience-rich a cycling holiday in Germany can be.
