In Wettelsheim, a visit to the local collection is well worthwhile. It showcases finds from Celtic, Roman, and Frankish periods, as well as numerous objects from traditional rural and craft-based village life.
Another particularly noteworthy site is the old St. Martin’s Church, now used as a cemetery chapel, which impresses visitors with a late Gothic altar from 1515 and choir stalls dating from the late 15th century.
The parish church of St. Mary, built in the Margravial style in the mid-18th century according to plans by the renowned architect Johann David Steingruber, is also one of the village’s most distinctive historic buildings.
For nature lovers, the area offers beautiful opportunities for hiking and cycling, for example along the Rohrach stream or into the so-called “Valley of the Beavers” in the Altmühltal Nature Park.

Culture and Events

One of the cultural highlights in Wettelsheim is the annual village festival, where local clubs and residents create a sociable program featuring music, activities, and regional specialties.
Another traditional event is the Wettelsheim church fair (Kirchweih), celebrated as a Franconian folk festival with music, a strong sense of community, and culinary offerings.
In addition, a vibrant local club scene contributes to a lively cultural atmosphere and a wide range of events throughout the year.

Cuisine

Among Wettelsheim’s culinary highlights is the Wettelsheimer Keller, a traditional beer garden above the village where Franconian beer is served directly from wooden barrels alongside hearty snacks.
The “Zum Goldenen Lamm” inn complements the local dining options with classic Franconian cuisine and regional beers in a cozy, traditional atmosphere.
Furthermore, other country inns in the village add to Wettelsheim’s culinary diversity with Franconian specialties and regionally inspired dishes.
