After experiencing an unforgettable river bike cruise on the Danube to the Iron Gate with my wife in 2023, I decided to join my sports friends on a Moselle bike tour (11-16 July 2020) with Donau Touristik.

It was a wonderful cycling adventure for all 5 of us! You may be able to do something with our feedback:

The hotels were all perfectly equipped, friendly staff, very nice rooms and excellent hospitality. The bikes were top-notch and the material breakage during the test cycling on the day of arrival was immediately repaired with a replacement bike. The cycle route was probably the most beautiful compared to other river cycle routes I know, as you cycle almost exclusively along the river and picturesque vineyards, i.e. without view-blocking dykes and boring straights. There were also the many picturesque villages and castles.

As far as the length of the day trips was concerned, we struggled a little on the 2nd day from Trier to Reil, as we ended up travelling 110 km due to diversions after Trier. (But we had decided in favour of the longer option because of the late booking). On day 3 from Reil to Ediger-Eller, we followed the tour book's recommendation to cycle along the Calmont via ferrata on the right bank of the Moselle to the Stuben ruins, but skipped cycling back to Neef afterwards. This meant that we first crossed the Moselle in Senheim and then cycled approx. 8 km back (i.e. approx. 16 km more). On the last stage, we almost cycled round Beilstein, perhaps the most beautiful and romantic Moselle village with the famous "Rühmann steps".

In conclusion, our verdict: A wonderful tour at a very fair price! The Moselle region from Perl to Koblenz is too beautiful to cycle through in 4 stages! In our opinion, the same tour could be broken down into 1-2 more stages with more information about the route.
