Top Sights

The legendary figure of the “Pied Piper of Hamelin” is the city’s main symbol and can be found everywhere—most notably at the Pied Piper’s House, which was built in the 17th century. The imposing Wedding House with its carillon and numerous half-timbered houses shape the old town. The city center with its shopping streets, the splendid Weser Renaissance buildings, and the small lanes along the pedestrian zone invite visitors to explore. In addition, the banks of the Weser, with the old Pfortmühle mill and green island areas, offer pleasant places to linger. The Weser Uplands, with their beautiful landscapes, are ideal for walks, hiking, or cycling tours.

Culture & Events

Hameln embraces its legend and history—during the summer, the open-air play “The Pied Piper” is performed at the Wedding House. A highlight is the three-day Pflasterfest Hameln in the old town, featuring live bands and a lively street-festival atmosphere. Wine festivals, the autumn market, and the Christmas market are also fixed dates in the annual calendar.

Cuisine

A culinary specialty is “flambéed rat tails,” a dish made from pork fillet tips that is often flambéed at the table and served with various spices and vegetables. In the narrow streets of the old town, visitors can enjoy hearty regional cuisine in a historic setting, while modern restaurants also offer creative dishes with a seasonal focus.
