❄️ Linz ❄️
Christmas markets
During Advent, the scent of Christmas baking, hot punch and roasted almonds fills the air. The old town and shopping streets are decorated with festive lights and put the city in a Christmassy mood.
We recommend a visit to one of the following Christmas markets:
Pfarrplatz
Hauptplatz
Volksgarten
Top sights
The magnificent churches and the new cathedral, which are located right in the centre, contribute to the cityscape worth seeing. The large main square is surrounded by lovingly renovated older houses in which shops of all kinds have opened their doors for you today. With the Holy Trinity Column in the centre and the large car-free area, you can enjoy a coffee or an ice cream from the surrounding pubs in summer. The castle is located on the hill of the old town centre, where you can enjoy a panoramic view over the rooftops of Linz from its upscale restaurant. You can marvel at the wonderful view even more from the Pöstlingberg, which is on the opposite side of the riverbank and can be reached by the steepest cable car in the world.
MS Primadonna: Note on the stop
Take the world's steepest adhesion railway up the Pöstlingberg and visit the Pöstlingberg church or the grotto railway. From the Konditorei Jindrak or the Pöstlingberger Schlössl you can enjoy a good coffee and cake as well as a wonderful view over Linz.
A walk across the Niebelungen Bridge to the parish church is also highly recommended.
Culture & Events
Linz is very progressive and with the Ars Electronica Center, the Lentos and the music theatre it is not just a visual attraction. Museums give an idea of how the city has grown, both in terms of area and economically. In the summer months, the city likes to organise events such as the Pflasterspektakel, the Linzfest or the Ars Electronica Festival. The banks of the Danube are also a meeting point for doing sport together or relaxing in the green and enjoying the sunshine.
Culinary delights
In addition to a host of young companies with innovative ideas and a wide variety of cuisines, there are also numerous traditional restaurants. We recommend the Klosterhof, a traditional restaurant right in the centre that serves typical Austrian dishes in a beer garden in the inner courtyard.
