Landau in der Pfalz looks back on an eventful history dating back to Roman times. The townscape is still characterised today by the Baroque fortifications built under Vauban. Parts of the ramparts, moats and bastions are still well preserved and integrated into parks. Also worth seeing are the historic old town with its town hall square, the collegiate church, the town's most important church building, and numerous town houses from different centuries. Landau is surrounded by vineyards, natural monuments and protected areas such as the Palatinate Forest Nature Park, which is ideal for walks, hikes and bike rides.
