Brombachsee
Interesting Facts
The Brombachsee consists of three lakes: the Small Brombachsee, the Large Brombachsee, and the Igelsbachsee. It is considered the largest lake in Franconia and, by surface area, the second-largest reservoir in Germany. It is named after its outflow, the Brombach stream. A total of five nature reserves are located around the Brombachsee, making the surrounding area a paradise for flora and fauna.
Culture
During Roman times, the 14th section of the Upper Germanic–Raetian Limes ran about two kilometers south of the Brombachsee. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Numerous works of art have also been created around the lake, including “The Lizard” (“Die Echse”) — a concrete sculpture approximately 10 meters long and 4 meters high by Christian Rösner.
After the flooding of the Brombachsee, the Mandlesmühle became an information center for visitors. The historic barn now houses the information center “Seenland – Water for Franconia,” which also …
