Top attractions

Another highlight is the city harbor with the longest accessible outer pier in Europe. Here you can enjoy the maritime flair, the view of fishing boats and sailboats, and the fresh sea air. The historic old town with its typical seaside resort villas and small alleys, the town hall, the butterfly garden, and the zoo are definitely worth a visit. From the Königsstuhl, you have a beautiful view of the Baltic Sea.

Culture and events

The HMS Otus submarine museum, an original British submarine in the harbor that now serves as a technical monument, is worth a visit all year round. In summer, the lively Sassnitz city harbor attracts visitors from near and far. During the “Rügen Harbor Days” or “Sail Sassnitz” events, the city harbor becomes a meeting place for everyone. There are many sales stands, fairground booths, and rides along the approximately 1 km long festival mile.

Culinary arts

There are numerous cafés and restaurants in the old town and along the beach promenade. The cuisine in Sassnitz is influenced by the sea – fresh, hearty, and regional. The classic fish sandwich with matjes herring or fried fish, which you can eat straight from your hand, is particularly popular. Sweet specialties include sea buckthorn cake or homemade ice cream with sea buckthorn liqueur – a real taste experience with a regional touch.
