Route
Day 1, Arrival

in Potsdam on Lake Templin. Public parking spaces are available near the hotel at the edge of the forest (3 minutes' walk, free of charge, unguarded) or in the underground car park for an additional charge (approx. € 16,- per day, payable on site). Your rental bike (if booked) will be waiting for you at the hotel.

Day 2, Schwielowsee/Werder, 38 km by bike (partly slightly hilly)

Along Lake Templin to the island town of Werder. Past Petzow Castle and Ferch (beach resort) to Caputh. By ferry (approx. € 2,- on site) to Geltow and back.

Day 3, Castle tour, 30 km by bike

Along the lakes to Glienicke Castle and on to Belvedere Pfingstberg. To Sanssouci Palace (“hanging gardens”) and the New Palace; return.

Day 4, Into the hinterland, 40 km by bike

Round trip to the small towns of the Mark Brandenburg. Along the lakes via Golm to the Töplitz peninsula (nature reserve). Via Bornim and the magnificent park of Kaiser Wilhelm II back to the hotel.

Day 5, Wannsee - Sacrow Palace Park - Cecilienhof, 50 km by bike, 20 minutes by ferry

To Wannsee and by ferry (approx. €7 on site) to Alt-Kladow. Continue to Sacrow Palace and Park (Heilandskirche); return.
Active version: Detour to Cecilienhof Palace (+ 4 km)

Day 6, Dutch Quarter and Einstein House, 23 km by bike

Along the lake to the center of Potsdam (Dutch Quarter, Nikolai Church). By ferry (approx. €1.50 per person; payable on site) to Hermannswerder. Continue to Caputh. Optional visit to the Albert Einstein House. Take the ferry (approx. €2, payable on site) to Geltow and back.

Day 7, Wannsee, 40 km by bike

Ride along the lakes over the Glienicker Bridge to Peacock Island and continue along the Mauerweg to Wannsee; return.
Active version: Continue to the (half) island of Schwanenwerder (+ 17 km).

Our tips: The New Palace and the Belvedere Pfingstberg

Construction of the New Palace began in 1763 after the end of the Seven Years' War under Frederick the Great and was completed in 1769. It is considered the last significant Baroque palace complex in Prussia. Frederick did not plan it as a royal residence, but as a palace for guests of his court. Emperor Wilhelm II made the New Palace his summer residence. The bedroom of the imperial couple, for example, can still be seen today.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site Belvedere on the Pfingstberg is an insider tip with a breathtaking view over Potsdam's palaces and lakes. Despite its impressive architecture, this gem is unfortunately little known. Ticket included!
