Berg on Lake Starnberg
Top sights
Berg Castle on Lake Starnberg is steeped in legend. The magnificent garden stretches to the shores of Lake Starnberg and is just as worth seeing as the castle itself. At first glance, the fairy-tale king's favorite place seems more like a villa than a castle. It was not the size that fascinated King Ludwig II. The castle served as a source of inspiration for him to design new building plans or receive guests such as the composer Richard Wagner.
Culture
The community is closely linked to the myth surrounding King Ludwig II. The greatest mystery to this day surrounds the king's death. A cross in Lake Starnberg is said to commemorate the king to this day. The votive chapel on the steep bank next to it was built as a memorial chapel. Architecturally, the small church can be classified as early Romanesque in style. Particularly worth seeing is the triumphal arch, on which the Bavarian coat of arms and the inscription “Ludovicus II. Rex Bavariae” (in English: Ludwig II, King of Bavaria) can be seen.
Cuisine
Traditional Bavarian cuisine made with fresh, regional products is offered here. The picturesque location on Lake Starnberg provides an idyllic backdrop for enjoying regional dishes and Bavarian delicacies.
