Top Attractions

Particularly worth seeing is the Minden Waterways Cross, where the Mittelland Canal crosses the Weser River 13 meters above the water. Two impressive canal bridges and a lock form this unique ensemble, fascinating both technology enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. The Minden Ship Mill, the only operational one of its kind in Germany, demonstrates how flour was traditionally milled on the river. Rising above the rooftops of the old town is the impressive Minden Cathedral. The charming old town, with its half-timbered houses and Weser promenade, offers plenty of opportunities for strolling, enjoying, and discovering.

Culture & Events

The LWL Prussian Museum and the City Museum feature exciting exhibitions on regional history and culture. A diverse events calendar with theater, music, exhibitions, and guided city tours completes the cultural offerings.

Cuisine

Typical regional dishes include Pickert, a flat potato pancake. The traditional hot drink Ströher Schwarten is made in equal parts of hot coffee, Korn (grain brandy), and water, and is especially enjoyed in convivial gatherings. At the historic Ship Mill on the Weser, visitors can enjoy not only the atmosphere but also regional cuisine. Local artisan producers and delicatessens offer specialties “Made in Westphalia”—from vinegars and oils to fine spirits.
