Tönning
Top sights
Tönning is particularly well known for its historic harbour at the mouth of the Eider River. The well-preserved warehouses and the Multimar Wattforum, an interactive museum about the Wadden Sea and its wildlife, are well worth seeing. A walk along the harbour quay also offers beautiful views of the river mouth and passing ships.
Culture & events
The town regularly hosts harbour days, mudflat walks and cultural festivals. Tönning Castle, with its museum of local and regional history, is also well worth a visit. Events centred around the Wadden Sea, combining nature and culture, are particularly popular.
Cuisine
The harbour and old town are home to cosy cafés and restaurants serving regional specialities such as fresh fish from the Eider or North German home cooking, inviting you to linger and enjoy the view of the water.
