Brunsbüttel
Top sights
Brunsbüttel is best known for the Kiel Canal, which flows into the Elbe here. The lock facilities are impressive, with their historic control rooms and viewing points from which you can watch the shipping traffic. The Brunsbüttel Maritime Museum is also worth a visit.
Culture & events
The town hosts regular harbour festivals and canal days, as well as events at the Brunsbüttel Cultural Centre, including concerts and exhibitions. The view from the Schleuseninsel lighthouse over the canal and the Elbe estuary is particularly beautiful.
Cuisine
Restaurants and cafés around the harbour serve regional specialities, including fresh fish from the Elbe, and invite you to linger and enjoy the view of the water.
