Pillnitz Castle and its palm house are considered special attractions. Originally the residence of Elector Johann Georg IV, it passed into the possession of his brother, later known as Augustus the Strong, after his death. In early May 1818, the old Renaissance house burned down completely. After it was rebuilt, it was used by the Saxon royal family only as a summer residence. In 1859, construction began on the Palm House, which was then the largest cast-iron greenhouse in Germany.
