Putbus
Sights
In Putbus on Rügen, it is particularly worth visiting the classicist “Circus,” a circular square with white house facades—a real architectural highlight. Also worth seeing are the 75-hectare castle park with its game reserve and the Putbus Theater, one of the oldest theaters in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The former residential palace, whose foundations remain visible in the park, the nearby Nature Heritage Center, and the harbor in Lauterbach are also popular destinations for excursions.
Cuisine
Putbus offers fresh regional cuisine with a focus on fish and products from the island of Rügen. In Lauterbach, the harbor district of Putbus, you will find cozy restaurants serving fish specialties such as zander, cod, or smoked fish straight from the boat. Seasonal ingredients such as sea buckthorn, game, and Rügen potatoes also play an important role in many dishes. The range is complemented by cafés offering homemade cakes and regional specialties such as Rügen herbal liqueur.
Events & Culture
Putbus offers a diverse cultural program with regular events and special occasions. One highlight is the Putbus Festival in spring, featuring concerts, musical theater, and exhibitions in the historic theater. In summer, the LebensArt fair in the castle park attracts visitors with garden and lifestyle exhibitors as well as culinary offerings. Other highlights include the open-air event “Music in the Park” at Pentecost and changing art exhibitions in the Orangery. The classicist Putbus Theater is a cultural center of the city all year round.
