Top Sights

Xanten is strongly shaped by its Roman past, which is particularly visible in the Archaeological Park Xanten. The city’s landmark is the Archaeological Park itself, which includes ancient city walls, an amphitheater, the Roman Museum, and other reconstructed Roman buildings. The impressive St. Viktor Cathedral and the historic old town with half-timbered houses and squares from various eras also attract visitors.

In addition to the urban sights, Xanten is surrounded by several nature and landscape conservation areas, including the Xanten North and South Lakes, which are ideal for walking, cycling, and relaxation.

Culture & Events

Xanten’s cultural life is diverse: museums, theaters, choirs, and clubs shape the city. The city is particularly known for events in the Archaeological Park, medieval markets, music festivals, and city festivals, which attract numerous visitors every year.

Culinary Delights

The regional cuisine is influenced by North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland traditions. Fresh fish from the Rhine, hearty meat dishes, and regional beers are typical, along with cafés and restaurants that invite visitors to enjoy and linger.
