- An active internet connection is required to install and launch the FRED web app for the first time.
- On iOS devices, an internet connection is also required when launching the app.
3. Compatibility notes
- Other browsers may also work in principle, but due to the wide variety of possible device and browser combinations, we cannot guarantee full functionality.
- Non-standard or restricted browser settings may prevent the app from working or limit its functionality.
- Older operating system versions (e.g. iOS 15 or Android 11) may be partially usable but have not been comprehensively tested.
- Modified browsers or manufacturer-specific customisations of individual devices (e.g. on older Samsung models) may lead to restrictions.
Important information regarding use
The FRED WebApp is a fully-fledged navigation solution featuring interactive maps and real-time route calculation. Please note that these functions require greater processing power and consume more energy – particularly when compared to simple offline travel guides.
Tips, tricks and advice on using the FRED app
- Please read the system requirements (see 1.) to ensure that your smartphone is compatible with our app.
- You won’t find our app in the Play Store or App Store. It can only be downloaded via the QR code provided with your travel documents.
- We recommend downloading and setting up the app at home. Check that you can see the entire route highlighted in orange under ‘Map’. If not, please contact us before your trip.
- Please note: You can only start the navigation itself on the day of the cycle tour once you are on site!
- We recommend starting the navigation on the day of the cycle tour whilst connected to the hotel’s Wi-Fi. The route for that day will then be downloaded. Afterwards, you can switch your smartphone to flight mode. Navigation will follow the orange route we recommend. If you deviate from this, the route will not be recalculated in flight mode. To calculate and display the route, the map data must be reloaded, which requires an internet connection.
- To start navigation, click on the orange bar showing the start/finish location, including the distance in kilometres, on the start screen on the respective cycling day.
- The orange bar showing the name of today’s hotel can be used if you wish to explore the town by bike in the evening and be guided back to the hotel.
- Location services must be enabled for navigation (see download instructions below).
- Pressing the Home button (the small house icon in the app) four times refreshes the app, for example after a Donau Touristik employee has uploaded new information.
- Please ensure your smartphone is fully charged before each stage: The FRED web app is a fully-fledged navigation solution with interactive maps and real-time route calculation. Please note that these functions require greater processing power and consume more energy.
- High energy consumption can be reduced by using the app in flight mode.
- Between 1 pm and 9 pm, the app shows you whether your luggage is still in transit or has already been delivered.
