Individual arrival in Trier. You will receive your travel documents at the hotel where you are staying, and any hire bikes you have booked will already be waiting for you. Subject to availability, you can park your car at or near the hotel; the parking fee is approximately € 18,- per day and is payable on site. The included boat trip on the Moselle is the perfect way to get the trip off to an atmospheric start. It will give you your first impressions of the river landscape and help you relax and get in the mood for the cycling days ahead through one of Germany’s most famous wine regions.

You’ll follow the Moselle downstream, first reaching Schweich with its old ferry tower. Along the route, you’ll come across numerous relics from the Roman era, including a villa rustica, a Roman aqueduct, a Roman ship and a historic wine-pressing facility. The route continues through the impressive Trittenheim Moselle loop, which, with its vineyards, is one of the region’s most famous landscapes. Finally, you’ll reach Trittenheim or Neumagen Dhron, where you can round off the day in a wine-growing village steeped in tradition.

Today, the route is characterised by the numerous bends in the Moselle. You’ll cycle through the vineyards to Bernkastel-Kues, one of the most famous towns on the Moselle. If you wish, you can visit Landshut Castle, situated on the right bank of the Moselle; however, due to the steep climb, the route is only recommended on foot and takes around 45 minutes. In Kues, you’ll find traces of a Neolithic settlement, a picturesque market square with half-timbered houses, and the Moselle Wine Museum. You’ll then cycle on to Traben-Trarbach, home to the ruins of Grevenburg Castle and remnants of the old city wall.

Your route takes you via Bullay, where traces of a Roman settlement have been discovered, and on to Bremm with the ruins of Stuben Abbey. You will then reach Beilstein, which is often referred to as the ‘Rothenburg on the Moselle’ due to its medieval appearance. The Metternich Castle ruins are well worth a visit here. You’ll then cycle along the river to Cochem, one of the region’s best-known towns. A visit to the Reichsburg, whose origins date back to around the year 1000 and which towers high above the old town, is particularly worthwhile.

Along the left bank of the Moselle, the route takes you through Klotten, Pommern and Treis-Karden, with its abbey museum and abbey church. In Moselkern, it’s well worth taking a detour to the famous Eltz Castle. You’ll then pass Bischofstein Castle, the historic ferry tower at Hatzenport and Thurant Castle. Passing through the wine-growing villages of Kobern-Gondorf and Güls, you’ll reach Koblenz. There, the Deutsches Eck awaits you at the confluence of the Moselle and the Rhine. Furthermore, Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, the Electoral Palace, the Moselle-Rhine promenade and the historic old town are all well worth a stroll.

After breakfast, your cycle tour along the Moselle comes to an end. Make the most of the remaining time for a final stroll through Koblenz or along the riverside promenade before setting off on your own journey home. If you’d like to explore the region in more detail, you can book extra nights and visit attractions such as the old town, the Deutsches Eck or other places of interest at your leisure. You will then depart independently in accordance with your personal travel plans. A return train journey to Trier is available at an additional cost (€ 25,- per person). Bike transfer (your own bike) is available on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (bikes must be handed in by 5 pm the previous day at the latest) at an additional cost (€ 40,- per bike).
