Day 2, cycling along the railway line (48 km by bike, 10 minutes by ferry):To Lohheider Lake, by ferry from Orsoy to Walsum. On the disused HOAG railway line through unspoiled nature, on the old railway line Grüner Pfad through the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park; return.
Day 3, Roman town of Xanten (69 km):On well-signposted cycle paths via Rheinberg and Alpen to the Roman town of Xanten on the Rhine (Germany's largest archaeological open-air museum). Back on the Rhine Cycle Route.
Day 4, Rhine-Herne Waterway (55 km):Across the Rhine to Duisburg and along the Rhine-Herne Waterway to Oberhausen Castle (individual visit). Return to the same path.
Day 5, Maasduinen National Park (60 km by bike, 65 minutes by train):Via Kamp-Lintfort (monastery) along the Niers Canal to the Maasduinen National Park with its picturesque forests, heathland, dunes, and lakes. Back to Geldern (mill, church), by train (every half hour, 2 changes) to Moers.
Day 6, Hülser Berg round trip (42 km):To Moers Castle and the Schwafheim recreational area. Past Lauersfort Castle (private property) to Hülser Berg (observation tower). Return via Vluyn and Neukirchen.
Day 7, Ruhr Cycle Route (58 km):Across the Rhine to Duisburg, along the Ruhr Cycle Route to Mülheim (Broich Castle, MüGa-Park). With a detour to Geleucht near Moers, return along the same route.
Day 8, journey home:After breakfast.
