  • The Alpe Adria cycle path, which is completely car-free and mostly flat, is a real hit. Most of the route follows the old railway line from Tarvisio to Venzone with great views.
  • Starting the tour in Mallnitz offers significant advantages: hardly any climbs; various contrasts as you cycle from the ‘rugged mountain village’ in the national park to the graceful Veneto; few traffic jams on the outward and return journeys.

Route
Day 1, Arrival

in Mallnitz. Documents will be issued and rental bikes (if booked) will be provided at the arrival hotel. Travel tips are included in your travel documents. Parking at the hotel or nearby public parking lot (3 minutes' walk) is included.

Day 2, Spittal/Seeboden (54 km by bike)

The Alpe-Adria Cycle Route continues along the valley floor to Obervellach and into the Drau Valley, past Möllbrücke and on to Seeboden. Depending on your fitness level and interest, the car-free Millstättersee Cycle Route is a beautiful route to Sappl. Return to Seeboden and your destination for the day.

Day 3, Tarvisio (69 km by bike/312 metres altitude)

Flat and car-free along/near the Drau River via Paternion to the small town of Villach on the Drau with its picturesque old town. The route then climbs gently/continuously along the Gail River to Arnoldstein and the day's destination (picturesque location).

Day 4, Carnia/Osoppo (59/64 km by bike)

Today, the heart of the Alpe-Adria Cycle Route awaits you. You will cycle through the narrow valley of the Fella River on the old railway line to Pontebba, which is closed to traffic. After a short stretch on the road, you will continue to your destination for the day.

Day 5, Udine (63/58 km by bike)

Partly car-free and close to the Tagliamento River or on side roads, the route passes Osoppo and Buia through the fertile landscape of Friuli to the day's destination, a magnificent trading town with numerous sights (Piazza della Liberta/Matteotti, Duomo, old town).

Day 6, Grado (63 km by bike)

Cycle along bike paths from the city center to the fertile surrounding countryside and through romantic villages such as Pavia to Palmanova, a Venetian fortified town (16th century) with a Piazza Grande, cathedral, numerous Renaissance palaces, and completely preserved city fortifications. Continue via Cervignano to Aquileia, the former imperial residence in the Roman Empire (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Passing through impressive countryside, you reach the old port town of Grado via the lagoon.

Day 7, Departure

Return journey or booking of additional nights.

Passenger return transfer

Every Saturday and Sunday by bus from the central piazza (approximately 5-12 minutes from the hotel) to Mallnitz (at approximately 1-3 p.m.). Other days at your own expense (discount € 55,-).

Return transfer of your own bikes

Return transfer of your own bike every Saturday and Sunday on the return bus journey + € 38,- (limited spaces). Other days at your own expense.
